Indian President expresses hope for a Cyprus solution
Nicosia, Dec 10 (CNA) - President of India Abdul Kalam has expressed hope that a just solution would be found the soonest on the long-pending political problem on the island and said he would like to see Cyprus and its people reunited.
Accepting the credentials of Cypriot High Commissioner to India Andrea Zenonos in an official ceremony at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi, the Indian President referred to the traditionally excellent relations between Cyprus and India, noting that there is still room for improvement.
Indian President expressed the wish to welcome after a settlement to the Cyprus problem, a joint delegation of Greek and Turkish Cypriots in New Delhi.
The High Commissioner expressed the political will of the Cypriot President and his government to find soon a solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bizonal bicommunal federation, based on UN resolutions and in line with the acquis communitaire and European Union rules and regulations.
He also referred to the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed his determination to work towards further developing these relations in the areas of commerce, economy and culture.
