Cypriot organisations agree to promote joint activities
Nicosia, Dec 27 - - The Cypriot Scientific Technical Chamber (ETEK) and
the Union of Turkish Cypriot Engineers and Architects Chambers (KTMMOB) have
agreed to further develop their activities in areas of common competence,
including scientific, vocational and social events.
According to an ETEK press release, these events will include an open competition for blueprinting the ''ideal house'' in Cyprus with special emphasis on the environmental and energy aspects. An eight-member joint committee has already been appointed to make preparations for the competition.
They also decided to give a joint work group the project of studying and restoring specific buildings of great architectural importance, to develop a series of activities that will give the opportunity for contacts and cooperation between engineers from both communities on the island, and to organise football matches with the participation of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot engineers. The first such match was held on December 20.
The two organisations call for the speedy resumption of talks under UN auspices to solve the Cyprus problem.
Regarding the Ledra Street crossing point in Nicosia, they express concern over the developments and call on all involved parties to work towards the dismantling of all obstacles and the whole dividing wall.
