Papadopoulos: No greater vision than the reunification of Cyprus
Nicosia, Dec 30 (CNA) – There is no greater vision than the vindication and the reunification of our country, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has said.
Papadopoulos made this statement during a festive function at the Presidential Palace when the bands of the National Guard, the Greek Armed Forces camp in Cyprus (ELDIK) and the Police sang New Year’s carols.
Papadopoulos wished everyone a Happy New Year.
The three bands also performed today for House President Demetris Christofias.
Asked to outline his vision for the New Year, Christofias said that his vision is a “peaceful settlement of the Cyprus question and the reunification of our homeland and people.”
“Our vision is a united Cyprus, a demilitarized Republic of Cyprus, without settlers and with the human rights of all the people of Cyprus recognized and respected in practice,” he noted.
He said that “we will continue to work hard to realise this vision during 2006 and I hope 2006 will be the turning point to solve our problem.”
