Cyprus Minister: No reason of concern regarding birdflu
Nicosia, Jan 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Efthymios Efthymiou said there is no reason of concern in Cyprus as regards birdflu, adding that Cyprus competent authorities are taking all necessary measures.
The increase of deaths from birdflu in Turkey does not mean anything, he said, adding that since the decease appeared in the region, the Cypriot Agriculture Ministry has been taking all necessary measures.
''People should not panic,'' Efthymiou added.
Invited to say whether there is cooperation with Cyprus' Turkish occupied areas, which have close relations with Turkey, the Cypriot Minister noted that the Cypriot services have been in contact with veterinary doctors in the occupied areas to coordinate the efforts against birdflu.
''Our side is ready to help,'' Efthymiou added.
He also said that there is no reason to adjourn the hunting season since no birdflu incident has appeared in Cyprus, adding that the hunters could assist the government services by informing them about any strange bird deaths.
