Larnaca, Jan 31 (CNA) – Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lillikas has been invited to participate in the annual Microsoft Government Leaders' Forum in Lisbon, at the invitation of Bill Gates.

Speaking at Larnaca airport on departure, Lillikas said that he will be meeting Gates as well as the head of the international activities of Microsoft, who is also responsible for investment in Cyprus.

“We will convey some proposals for cooperation with Microsoft and investment in Cyprus”, Lillikas said, noting that «this effort is part of our strategy to develop the field of research and technology in Cyprus. I hope we will have positive results”, he concluded.

According to a Microsoft press release, this year’s European GLF in Lisbon, Portugal, will focus on the theme of “Driving Global Competitiveness through Local Innovation”, and will examine the opportunities and challenges that leaders across the region are facing in the new global economy.

In particular, “attendees will discuss the European Commission’s mid-term report ‘Working Together for Growth & Jobs’, which proposes a series of reforms and steps that focus on delivering stronger, lasting growth and creating more and better jobs”.
