Mariinsky Theatre to stage Verdi’s “Un ballo in Maschera” in Cyprus
Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Un ballo in Maschera” by the Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg will be presented in Cyprus in September within the
framework of coastal Pafos' Aphrodite Festival.
The relevant agreement was signed between Pafos Aphrodite Festival chairman and Mayor of Pafos Fidias Sarikas and Firma Kolizey Ltd Director Levon Bakouns.
In statements, Mr. Sarikas stressed the significance of the agreement with the Russian firm, adding that the opera will be presented from 1-3 September at the Pafos Medieval Castle at a cost of 280 thousand pounds (around 560 thousand dollars).
Mr. Bakouns described the project as very significant, noting that the Mariinsky Theatre’s presence in Pafos is not only a cultural event but also a great step forward in the relations between Russia and Cyprus.
