King of Norway supports Cyprus settlement based on principles
Nicosia, Feb 8 - King Harald V of Norway has assured of the continuous
support of his country to the position of principle for a single
sovereignty, integrity and unity of Cyprus and for a peaceful settlement of
its political problem on the basis of the UN and the international law.
In a private meeting with Ambassador of Cyprus Pavlos Anastasiades, after the latter presented his credentials, the Monarch also expressed the wish for a quick solution to the longstanding hardship of the island and its people.
According to an official press release, Anastasiades, who is based in Stockholm, reaffirmed the commitment and readiness of the President of the Republic to work for the strengthening of the already good bilateral relations.
They further reviewed the prospects for the development of cooperation in several fields, especially after Cyprus' accession to the EU and making use of Norway's participation in the European Free Trade Association.
The Ambassador also briefed the King over the current situation in the Cyprus problem, noting the government's commitment to efforts towards a settlement.
