Cabinet approves merchant shipping agreement with Lebanon
Nicosia, Feb 17 (CNA) - An agreement between Cyprus and Lebanon on merchant shipping was approved by the Cabinet during its recent meeting, chaired by President Tassos Papadopoulos.
In this direction, it authorised the Minister of Communications and Works to sign the agreement, an official statement said here Friday.
The main provisions of the agreement include granting equal treatment in the field of services for each country's ships while inside the other country and the mutual recognition of ship certificates as well as the certificates and identification documents of seafarers.
The agreement also provides for restricting delays of ships of both countries at ports and the simplification of the relevant procedures as well as cooperation and granting assistance in case of naval accidents.
