Nicosia satisfied with results of Papadopoulos-Annan meeting

Paris, Feb 28 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos presented to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, during their meeting here today, an overall proposal for the process and certain measures to be taken to prepare the ground for negotiations on Cyprus and improve the climate on the island, CNA has learned.
Diplomatic sources said the two sides agreed on the process to be followed on the ground, in Cyprus, and on the issues to be discussed as well as on the measures to be promoted to prepare the ground and create the appropriate climate for the resumption of talks.
Nicosia considers today's meeting as very productive and is satisfied with the results, the same sources said, adding that Annan made clear in the statement that he has accepted the need for the good preparation of the ground for talks and so an agreement has been reached to begin work on the ground on technical level. Annan's Special Representative to Cyprus Michael Moller has been assigned with the task of conducting this work, while UN Undersecretary General Ibrahim Gambari is expected to visit the island soon.
