Moller holds meetings with senior UN officials abroad
Nicosia, Mar 4 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus Michael Moller is currently off the island, holding meetings with UN senior officials, UNFICYP Spokesman Brian Kelly told CNA today.
Kelly was commenting on information that Moller intends to visit Greece and Turkey to confer on Cyprus.
''All I can tell is that he (Moller) is currently off the island meeting with some senior UN officials,'' Kelly told CNA.
Moller is expected to have meetings in Athens and Ankrara next week.
Yesterday, Government Spokesman Giorgos Lillikas said that UN Undersecretary General on Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari will travel to Brussels for contacts with EU officials, to Moscow and other decision-making centres, while Moller will travel to Greece and Turkey, as well as to Brussels, where he will request the involvement of EU experts in preparing talks in Cyprus at the technical level.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan announced earlier this week after a meeting in Paris with Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos that the leaders of both Cypriot communities have agreed that "bicommunal discussions on a series of issues, agreement on which is needed for the benefit of all Cypriots, will be undertaken at the technical level."
