Israel reiterates support for Cyprus reunification
Nicosia, May 3 - The state of Israel will continue its support towards the Republic of Cyprus in its efforts to reach a solution to the Cyprus issue, Israeli Ambassador to Nicosia Svi Cohen Litant said at a reception in Nicosia to celebrate Israel's National Day.
Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, who was present, noted that the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Israel have been improving year after year and expressed hope that they will develop in many other fields of mutual interest.
"Since we entered the EU we see ourselves as having a very important role in this region of the world. We want to become a bridge of peace friendship and cooperation with the countries around us. Especially with our friends from Israel", he added.
The Israeli Ambassador expressed his country?s commitment to work in order to achieve peace with all its neighboring countries.
Referring to the "excellent bilateral relations between Israel and Cyprus", he said that they reflect the solid bonds of friendship that are constantly being developed between the people of Cyprus and Israel.
Regarding the Cyprus problem, the Ambassador reassured that his country will continue to support the reunification of the island.
"I would like to extend to you Mr President, to your government and the people of Cyprus our continued support for the unification of your island in the very near future", he also said.
