Commission Directorate delegation to visit Cyprus
Nicosia, Jul 11 (CNA) - A high level unit of the European Commission, comprising officials from the Directorates General for Economic and Financial Affairs, Employment, Enterprise, Research and Regional Policy, will be visiting Cyprus for a series of meetings on July 12.
The visit is being organised in the context of promoting the implementation of national programmes for the Lisbon Strategy.
The delegation will exchange views with involved government services on progress so far regarding the implementation of the national programme, and will discuss procedural matters concerning the first progress report to be submitted by Cyprus in October 2006 on its national programme.
The officials will also meet with the social partners, political parties and organisations, as well as the members of the House of Representatives Committee for Finance and Budget.
In October 2005, the Republic of Cyprus submitted its national programme on the Lisbon Strategy, focusing on how Cyprus faces challenges and aiming mainly at expanding the productive potential of the economy. Cyprus' national programme was evaluated positively by the European Commission.
The Ministry of Finance has proceeded with the creation of a mechanism to implement the national programme, in which all interested ministries and services are involved, as well as the social partners, political parties and organised groups.
