Secretary Rice thanks Cyprus for cooperation in Lebanon crisis
Nicosia, Jul 24 -- US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
expressed the gratitude of the US for the "remarkable cooperation" with the government of the Republic of Cyprus, in evacuating US citizens from war-torn Lebanon.
Ms. Rice expressed her thanks to Cyprus Foreign Minister George Lillikas, during a short meeting they had at Larnaca airport, where Rice made a stop before heading to Lebanon and Israel.
A press release by the US Embassy in Nicosia said "Foreign Minister George Lillikas met Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on her arrival at Larnaca International Airport".
"The Secretary of State took the opportunity to express the gratitude of the US for the remarkable cooperation in the assisted departure efforts", it added.
The press release noted that "the two governments will remain in close touch on issues related to the situation in Lebanon and Israel".
According to an official press release in Cyprus, the two Ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and Mr. Lillikas reassured his American counterpart that Cyprus will continue to put its available infrastructure and means at the disposal of foreign governments for repatriating their citizens.
