EU officials use Cyprus as a bridge for Middle East
Larnaca, Jul 28 (CNA) -- European Union officials use Cyprus as a bridge in their effort to put an end to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
A high-ranking EU delegation made up of Finland's Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, stopped over at Larnaca aiport this morning on their way to Lebanon from Israel.
The EU officials came from Tel Aviv and immediately boarded a French military helicopter heading for Beirut.
Tuomioja and Ferrero-Waldner were met at Larnaca airport by Cyprus Foreign Minister George Lillikas, Finland's Ambassador in Nicosia Risto Pipponen, and Head of the Representation of the European Commission to Cyprus Themis Themistocleous.
