Nicosia, Aug 2 -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has recently sent a letter through the UN to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat for a meeting between them so that they could review and evaluate developments as a follow-up of exchanging lists of issues to be discussed on a technical level and discussions between their representatives towards a Cyprus settlement.

Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis said it appears Mr. Talat has replied positively to the proposal, adding that a date has not yet been set and would depend on developments.

Foreign Minister George Lillikas reiterated, "The government of Cyprus stands firm by its policy, that whenever there is an issue for discussion regarding the Cyprus problem, especially if it concerns the substance of the problem, President Papadopoulos will be willing to meet with Mr. Talat, either to provide political guidance to the experts and the technical committees trying to prepare the ground or to help overcome any problems that may arise during this procedure".
