Solana to make brief stopover in Cyprus on his way to Lebanon
Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) -- Javier Solana, the European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, will arrive in Cyprus early afternoon on his way to Beirut, to hold talks there as part of efforts to end the conflict.
A Cypriot Foreign Ministry spokesman told CNA today that Solana will make a brief stop at Larnaca airport and will then depart for Lebanon.
A statement by the EC Representation in Cyprus said on Thursday that Solana will have high level discussions with leaders on the latest developments in the conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
It also said Solana strongly supports and encourages an agreement on a UN Security Council resolution aimed at bringing the conflict to an end.
After Lebanon, Solana will travel to Israel and the Palestinian Territories. He is expected to stop over in Cyprus on his way back from Lebanon.
