IOC President: ''Sport in Cyprus is developing extremely well''
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge has inaugurated the Olympic Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said "the hearts of sports and the Olympics will beat in the Olympic House and will bring alive the immortal Olympic spirit and classic substance of what is good, grande and real."
He also said: "The ideals and values of the Olympics are summed up in noble competition and honest effort, in nurturing a high moral and promoting virtues, in the group spirit and catholicity of moral principles, and these are not a mere way of life. They are the substance and menaing of life. This substance and meaning should guide our young people to continue the foundations of our society and inspire the struggle for a better future."
The Olympic House signals the start of a new course to further promote sports on the island and to renew the action and contribution of the Cyprus Olympic Committee.
