Commissioner Kyprianou: No one wants Turkey's EU course to stop
Nicosia, Nov 27 – EU Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner Marcos Kyprianou stated here Monday that no one would like Turkey’s accession course to stop because it is a fundamental lever for reforms.
In statements before the failure of the Finnish initiative was announced, Mr. Kyprianou, who was received by President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos said that no one wants to stop Turkey’s accession course because it is a “fundamental lever for reforms”. However, he said that if it “does not fulfill its obligations, there will be some repercussions”.
“These are the parameters in which any proposal by the EU should move within”, said Mr. Kyprianou.
The Commissioner said that a supplementary report will be issued by the Commission on Turkey’s accession course where there will be a clear reference that the obligation to implement the protocol is a separate obligation and is not associated with other issues.
