Cyprus and China sign cooperation agreements
Beijing, Dec 7 -- Cyprus and China have signed three cooperation agreements in the fields of trade, health and culture.
The agreements were signed in the Chinese capital today in the presence of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, who is paying an official visit to China, and Chinese President Hu Jintao, at the end of official talks between the two leaders.
The first agreement providing for cultural exchanges between the two countries in the period 2006-2010 was signed by Cyprus’ Finance Minister Michalis Sarris and China’s Culture Minister Sun Jiazheng.
The second agreement on cooperation in the fields of health and medicine was signed by Sarris and China’s Health Minister Jao Xiang.
The third agreement on promoting further trade relations and investments was signed between Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Trade Promotion Office of China’s Ministry of Trade.
Earlier the two Presidents held official talks. The Chinese President welcomed President Papadopoulos saying the two countries were ready to promote even further their cooperation in many sectors.
He also expressed satisfaction with a series of measures taken by the Cyprus Republic with an aim to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The Cypriot President thanked the Chinese President for the invitation to visit the country, saying the whole world admires the progress achieved by China in the fields of economy, science and culture.
He referred to bilateral relations between the two countries saying that they were developing at a satisfactory level.
