Cyprus Archbishop to meet T/C religious leader
Nicosia, Dec 28 - Archbishop Chrysostomos II, the new leader of the autocephalous Christian Orthodox Church of Cyprus, will meet with Mouftis - the head of religious affairs in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus - on January 8.
The Archbishop refrained from disclosing anything about the agenda of his forthcoming meeting, but he clarified that he has no intention of showing either his identity card or any other document in order to cross into the Turkish-occupied part of the island.
“I hope everything takes its course and runs smoothly so that we, too, can contribute to normalizing relations between the two communities,” he added.
The Archbishop, who was elected last month to the post, said that Cyprus' Greeks and Turks, especially the older generation, have shared their joy and pain for years.
