New Nicosia Mayor pledges cooperation with Turkish Cypriots for the capital's revival
Nicosia, Jan 03 - The newly-elected Mayor of Nicosia, Eleni Mavrou, has vowed to cooperate with Turkish-Cypriots in the Turkish-occupied area of the divided capital for the revival of the old city.
The new Nicosia Mayor also told journalists that her priorities include resolving the city's traffic problem, the revival of the walled old city and projects of common interest for Greek and Turkish-Cypriots living in the capital.
"The cooperation (with Turkish-Cypriots) should continue with a new dynamic", she said, noting that issues of common interest for both communities also covered the sewerage system, clearing of the buffer zone and opening of more crossing points.
Ms. Mavrou, who was elected last December as the first female mayor of Nicosia, reassured that she would do her utmost so that cooperation between the Greek and Turkish-Cypriots continues to yield positive results.
