Cypriot sailor qualifies for Beijing Olympics Games
Nicosia, Jul 11 - Cypriot sailor, Pavlos Kontides gained a ticket to represent Cyprus in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Kontides, 17 years old, finished 62nd at the world sailing championship which took place in Cascais, Portugal. ''By winning this privileged position Kontides managed to place Cyprus at the 29th place and at the same time to qualify for the Olympics'', a Limassol Nautical Club press release says.
Kontides is already on his way to Ontario, Canada where the World’s Youth Championship will take place with the participation of more than 220 athletes from over 50 countries.
''Our athlete finished 7th at the British world championship and he is considered to be amongst the favorites for this years title,'' the release adds.
15 year old Natasa Christodoulou, another L.N.C. athlete, will also join Kontides in Canada to compete at the young women’s sailing competition.
