President Papadopoulos appoints four new Ministers
Nicosia, Jul 13 - President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos appointed four new Ministers last Friday, after the resignation of four members of his Cabinet in the wake of the dissolution of the tri-party coalition due to AKEL’s decision to run for the presidential elections with its own General Secretary, Demetris Christofias, as candidate.
President Papadopoulos appointed Maria Malahtou Papalli as Minister of Communications and Works, Costas Kadis as Minister of Health, Erato Kozakou-Markoulli as Minster of Foreign Affairs and Christos Patsalides as Minister of the Interior.
Outgoing Minister Yiorgos Lillikas, who handed over the Ministry to his successor at a special ceremony held in Nicosia on Monday, noted that Mrs. Kozakou-Marcoulli recently served as Director of the Cyprus Question Division, and if very familiar with Cyprus’s political issues.
Mrs. Kozakou-Marcoullis, a career diplomat was previously the Ambassador to the US from 1998-2003, pledged on Monday that she will work tirelessly to achieve the objectives of the Ministry.
She added that the President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos has set out the priorities for Cyprus’ foreign policy and that the Foreign Ministry will always pave the way for the implementation of this policy.
“The President of the Republic expects a lot from us. The Cyprus people as well,” she added and assured that “I will work indefatigably to achieve our goals.”
