Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the UN elected vice chairman of UN General Assembly
Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis was elected on Tuesday, after hearings at the plenary of the UN General Assembly, as one of the 21 Vice Chairmen of the 62nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
In the current Session of the General Assembly, Ambassador Mavroyiannis was one of the six members of the Contact Group appointed by the Chairman of the General Assembly to study the restructuring of the Security Council.
The General Assembly has a wide range of important issues on its agenda, such as peace and security issues, among which the Cyprus problem. Other issues include the restructuring of the Security Council and challenges, such as climate changes, globalisation, terrorism, immigration and sustainable development. The aim is to achieve an effective multilateral diplomacy and to tackle the substance and real issues faced by humanity
