Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Energy was held this week in Cyprus
Nicosia, Dec 17 – Limassol hosted the 5th Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Energy on 16-17 December. Speaking during a press conference, Cyprus Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Antonis Michaelides said that energy is perhaps the most important issue which the EU is currently dealing with.
During this meeting, the Ministers of the EU Member States and their counterparts from the Mediterranean partner countries endorsed a comprehensive Priority Action Plan for the Euro-Mediterranean energy cooperation, running from 2008 to 2013.
The conference was addressed by Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, Mr. Manuel Pinho, Minister of Economy and Innovation of Portugal, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and Mr. Michaelides.
The ministers examined the future of the Euro-Mediterranean Energy Cooperation, with a presentation of the Priority Action Plan on the Euro-Mediterranean Energy Cooperation 2008-2013 and a second session which dealt with the importance of regional initiatives in the energy field.
