Cypriot Film Honored at International Festival
Nicosia, Apr 17 - A Cypriot film director has won an award for innovation, at the 14th International Film Festival of Marrakech in Morocco.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has announced that the short film “To Onoma tou Spourgitiou” (“Sparrow’s Name”) by Cypriot director Kyros Papavasiliou won the “Prix d' Innovation”, at the Morocco Festival.
The film, produced in 2006, was also written by Kyros Papavasiliou. It has been selected among 3000 films to represent Cyprus at last year's International Competition at Cannes Film Festival.
The film deals with the absence of real identity in modern society and the inability to name things in relation to the substance. It is a unique mixture of abstract concepts and rational arguments reflected in a poetic image and in the abstract rhythm of the film.
