Government Increases Minimum Wage
Nicosia, Apr 23 - The Government has decided to increase the minimum wage for certain professions.
The decision was taken by the Council of Ministers and announced by Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.
The decision concerns secretaries, salespersons, nurse assistants, governess assistants, baby nurse assistants and school assistants. By July 1st, it will include other professions too.
According to the decision, the minimum wage will increase by 6.35%, from €699 ($1097)which is the minimum wage today, to €743 ($1166).
In addition, the minimum wage for employees who work more than six months, will increase by 6.4%, from €742 ($1165) to €789 ($1239).
The minimum wage will now reach 50% of the average wage Mr. Stephanou said.
