Cyprus to Grant Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar
Nicosia, May 7 - The Republic of Cyprus will grant €30,000 in humanitarian assistance to cyclone hit Myanmar.
An official statement said that the assistance, which will be conveyed through the Red Cross, aims to contribute to the international community’s efforts to support the people of Myanmar.
Myanmar was hit by tropical cyclone Nargis over the weekend, killing at least 22,000 people and leaving 41,000 missing.
In its statement, the Republic of Cyprus expresses its deepest regret for the loss of thousands of lives as a result of the cyclone which has affected a large part of the country. “The people of Cyprus, shocked at the magnitude of the disaster, stand by the people of Myanmar at these difficult times and express their condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy”, the statement concluded.
