Cyprus President and T/C Leader to Meet Again on May 23
Nicosia, May 8 - Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou announced that Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat will have a new meeting on May 23.
''President of the Republic Demetris Christofias will meet with the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mehmet Ali Talat on Friday, May 23 at 11:00 (local time)", Mr. Stephanou said in a statement issued earlier. He adds that further details regarding the meeting will be released at a later stage.
Mr. Christofias and Mr. Talat yesterday had a chance to come together and have a short talk during a social bicommunal event, held at the Ledra Palace hotel.
The event, a reception hosted by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic was for representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties, who participate in bicommunal meetings.
Both President Christofias and the Turkish Cypriot Leader arrived at the reception accompanied by the Ambassador of Slovakia Anna Tourenikova.
Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou and adviser of the Turkish Cypriot Leader, Ozdil Nami, were also present at the reception and described the meeting as a social event, noting this was a positive step.
