Conference on “Mediterranean after 1453” to be Held in Cyprus
Nicosia, Jun 10 - Professors Ioannis Taifakos of the University of Cyprus and Amedeo Feniello of the University of Rome will be organizing a three-day conference in Cyprus from June 12 to 14 entitled ''The Mediterranean after 1453'', with the cooperation of the Italian Embassy and under the auspices of UNESCO.
According to a University of Cyprus press release, the conference, to be attended by professors studying the era at the Universities of Rome, Florence, Venice, Genoa, Paris, Valencia and Cyprus, studies the consequences of the Ottoman rule after the fall of Constantinople.
It examines the political, historical, diplomatic and economic situation in the Mediterranean and the Ottoman rule in the wider region. The University of Cyprus points out the importance of the conference taking place in Cyprus, a crossroad between the Byzantium and the Muslim world, Christian Europe and the Greek East.
