Paschalis Paschalides Passes Away in Athens

Athens, Jun 17 - Paschalis Paschalides passed away on Tuesday in his home in Athens at the age of 79.

Mr. Paschalides was born in 1929 in the village of Prastio, Cyprus. He studied Economics and Political Science in London.

He was a close associate of Cyprus' first President, Archbishop Makarios III, and served as Minister of Commerce and Industry in the first Council of Ministers.

Mr. Paschalides also ran in the 1993 presidential elections, supported by the Democratic Party and socialist EDEK.

He also served as President of the Greek Mining Company (EME).

Mr. Paschalides will be buried in Cyprus.
