Cypriot National Skeet Team Clinches Third Gold Medal
Nicosia, Jul 14 - The 2008 European Shotgun Championships ended on Sunday at the Nicosia Olympic Shooting Range, with two new European records and the Cypriot national skeet team clinching its third gold medal.
Norwegian Tore Brovold in skeet, who was this year's gold winner and European champion, set records at 125/125 and 150/150. Norwegian Jensen Harald won the silver medal.
The Cypriot team clinched the gold medal with 364/375, followed by the Czech and Italian teams with 363/375.
Although missing the members of the Olympic team Antonis Nicolaides and George Achilleos, shooters Antonis Andreou, Kyriacos Christoforou and Tasos Hapeshis proved that the Cypriot team is to be taken seriously in any European or international shooting event.
In women's trap, German Susanne Kiermayer won the title of European champion with 94/100 (72/75+22), while the silver medal went to Slovakian Zuzana Stefecekova with 93/100 (73/75+20) and the bronze to Russian Elena Tkach.
In the women's trap teams, the Russian team won the gold medal with 206/225, followed by France with 204/225 and Italy with 203/225.
