European Poets to Participate in Event in Nicosia
Nicosia, Feb 11 - Poets Michalis Ganas from Greece, Duska Vrhovac from Serbia and Mehmet Yashin from Cyprus are three of the eleven highly acclaimed poets from ten European countries that will take part in first event, titled “In the beginning is the word” of the project “Triptych: Poetry - Identity – Coexistence”, to be organized over the next two years in Nicosia, Stockholm, Paris and Athens.
Organizers of the event and project leaders are the Cypriot cultural organizations Ideogramma and Atlantis Productions. The event in Nicosia will be held on March 21st.
The project is supported by the European Programme on Culture (2007-2013) and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Michalis Ganas was born in Epirus in 1944. His poems have been translated into numerous languages and his lyrics set to music by well known Greek composers. In 1994 he received the State Award for Poetry for his book Paralogi.
Duska Vrhovac was born in 1947. Her poems have been translated into many languages. She has received many awards for poetry and the Golden Medal of Cultural-Educational Association of Serbia for expanding culture.
Mehmet Yashin was born in Nicosia in 1958. His books have played an important role in re-defining the literary traditions of Cyprus and Turkey. His work has been translated into more than 20 languages.
