House President sends message to Cheney and Hastert

Nicosia, Sep 11 (CNA) - From the moment of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, against the United States, Cyprus has continued to "strongly condemn this barbaric act and is taking part in all efforts to fight terrorism", President of the House of Representatives Demetris Christofias says.

In a message to US Vice President and Senate President Dick Cheney and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the attacks, Christofias expresses deep sympathy and the sincere feelings of himself and the members of the House and the people of Cyprus for the "destructive blow against the US and the American people".|

He says Cyprus "expresses its solidarity, and sides with all efforts underway to fight terrorism, based on the UN decisions and principles, and the respect of international law and human rights".

Christofias assures Cheney and Hastert over Cyprus' firm solidarity and expresses infinite sympathy towards the US and the American people who are "being tested so hard" since last September.

He further expresses his deepest sympathy towards the tragic families of the victims of the terrorist attacks.
