Cyprus to host European Laser Masters Championship
Nicosia, Apr 22 - Cyprus will host the European Laser Masters Championship on April 24 through April 30.
The event, which will take place in Limassol, will host 75 athletes from 22 countries, including New Zealand, Sweden, Spain, Brazil and Argentina, all of which will participate in three classes; Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for April 25, while the closing ceremony and the award ceremony will take place on April 30.
President of the Cyprus Sailing Federation, Giannis Fotiou, said that because of problems in air travel resulting from the release of volcanic ash, the Federation has, in cooperation with the International Laser Class Association, prepared an alternative plan which will be made public within the next two days, if deemed necessary.
Mr Fotiou also announced that Cyprus will be hosting the World Youth RS:X 2010 Championship on October 23-31, an event which will be attended by more than 100 participants.
He added that the RS:X 2010 Youth Championship and the European Laser Masters Championship will prepare the Sailing Federation to host the ISAF's 2013 World Youth Championship, to be attended by 400 athletes who will then compete in 7 classes.
