Electricity from occupied areas to be provided to the Republic of Cyprus
2011-07-18 09:04:36

The provision of electricity from the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus began on Saturday, July 16, at midnight local time, to cover part of the gap in power after the island's main power station at Vassiliko was destroyed by the shock wave from the explosion of munitions at the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base.

Director of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) Christos Christodoulides stated that "the connection was made after many efforts and things are running smoothly, we are receiving a load of around 20 MW."

Christodoulides noted that the situation would be assessed and further moves would be decided.
