EU Civil Protection team assesses the damage at Vasiliko power plant
An EU civil protection team, headed by Austrian expert Alois Hirschumgl, was deployed in Cyprus last weekend, according to an announcement issued by the European Commission's representation.
A European Commission liaison officer already arrived on site on 14 July to prepare the deployment of the team that consists of 10 members in total. The selected experts nominated through the EU civil protection mechanism come from 8 different countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Romania and the United Kingdom.
“The duty of the experts is to assist the Cypriot authorities in assessing the damage of the Vasiliko electrical power station”, according to the statement issued by the EC representation.This will cover engineering damage assessment, restoration work estimates, economic assessment and health and safety issues.
