President of the European Commission appoints New Representative to UN Good Offices mission in Cyprus
President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso has decided to appoint Jorge Cesar das Neves as his new personal Representative to the Good Offices Mission of the United Nations in Cyprus.
Cesar das Neves succeeds Representative Leopold Maurer, who has been working in the position since October 2009 in addition to his functions as Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro.
According to an EU Commission press release, Mr, Des Neves' appointment is a further demonstration that Mr. Barroso and the European Commission are fully committed to supporting the Cyprus settlement process and will spare no effort in assisting the United Nations in that respect.
Cesar das Neves will work on a full time basis to provide advice to the UN Good Offices Mission on EU-related matters.
