Cypriot film "By Miracle" makes its debut at the AFI European Film Showcase on Saturday, November 5, 2011
This year's Cypriot entry at the AFI European Film Showcase is a feature length film from the ambitious young filmmaker Marinos Kartikkis. "By Miracle" is an honest, touching film that immerses the audience in two stories running parallel to each other; that of Aliki and Andreas, a married couple trying to have another child following the tragic loss of their 4 year-old daughter, and that of Marios, a young religion teacher struggling to come to terms with his sexuality.
As its title suggests, the film forces both the characters and the audience to question and grapple with issues of faith, while the two parallel stories weave a realistic and subtle portrait of grief and the struggle to believe in everyday miracles.
A must see, the film will be screened at the AFI in Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2.20, Monday, Nov.7 at 7.45 and Tuesday, November 8 at 5.00.
