Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visits Washington
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou,visited Washington last week after accompanying President Christofias at the meeting convened by the UN Secretary General at Greentre.
Mr. Emiliou held a series of meetings with U.S. officials on January 27,including the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Mr Philip Gordon, the Assistant to the Vice President for National Security Affairs, Mr Anthony Blinken and the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council, Ms Elizabeth Sherwood Randall.
During the meetings Mr. Emiliou briefed the American officials on the current phase of the Cyprus problem and the efforts to resolve it in the aftermath of the Greentree meeting. Bilateral relations, energy issues as well as the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and other regional issues of mutual concern were also discussed.
