Visit the Embassy of Cyprus during EU Open House Day - May 12, 2012
On May 12, 2012, the European Union (EU) Delegation and the Embassies of the 27 EU Member States to the United States and future EU member Croatia will open their doors in what has become an important annual event for Washington DC. Visitors will be able to see the Embassies and take a rare glimpse inside the buildings; a unique opportunity to experience the diversity and richness of Europe.
This is the sixth year running that the 27 European Union member countries and the EU Delegation have worked together to present this fantastic event, which draws thousands of visitors. The EU Embassies’ Open House demonstrates the EU’s motto of ‘unity through diversity’ by showcasing the range and richness of European culture and society.
The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus: the tour of the country of Cyprus will have you enter a crossroads of civilizations, where the West and East meet. You will have the opportunity to explore the Embassy, delve into leaflets on Cyprus’ history, culture, tourism and cuisine and enjoy short documentaries featuring ancient castles, winemaking, cycling and fabulous Cypriot beaches. You will have a chance to taste the traditional Cypriot Halloumi cheese and Soudjouko, made of grape juice and almonds. Lastly, we will have the pleasure to host a local Greek dancing group, whose performance cannot be missed.
A free bus shuttle service will be provided throughout the day (making stops at each EU mission and at Metro stations Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom and Van Ness), leaving every five-ten minutes.
