Energy Minister paid a working visit to Washington DC
The Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, who was on a working visit to Washington DC, had a meeting yesterday with the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy Mr Amos J. Hochstein during which the issues of the security of energy supply and the cooperation in the field of energy were discussed. The Minister held also a meeting with his American counterpart, Mr Ernest Moniz, during which they discussed the energy sector developments in Cyprus and specific ways of expanding the cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy. Furthermore, the Minister held meetings with Noble Energy and Halliburton Executives and he briefed congressional staffers on the developments and planning concerning the Cyprus energy sector. Finally, he had a meeting with Hellenic and Israeli-Hellenic Caucuses’ Congressmen.
During the second day of the working visit he paid to Washington DC, the Minister met with correspondents of US media on energy issues, including the Wall Street Journal, Oil Magazine and Platts TV, whom he briefed on the developments in Cyprus’ energy domain. Mr Lakkotrypis then presented at the German Marshall Fund think tank, Cyprus’ energy policy and the vision for regional cooperation. The Minister of Energy also had a meeting with the Atlantic Council think tank and attended a reception and dinner that was organized in his honor. The Minister then met with the American Hellenic Institute (AHI), the Executive Board of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). During his contacts, the Minister was escorted by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tasos Tzionis and the Ambassador of Cyprus in Washington D.C., Mr. George Chacalli.
