Written statement by the Government Spokesman Mr Nikos Christodoulides about the meeting of the President of the Republic with the US Secretary of State
The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades had, during late noontime today, a meeting with the Secretary of State of the United States of America Mr John Kerry.
The meeting, which lasted for 45 minutes, took place on the sidelines of the proceedings of the 45th Conference of the World Economic Forum, in Davos.
During the meeting issues of bilateral interest as well as the latest developments on the Cyprus problem, with emphasis on the Turkish violations within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, were discussed.
President Anastasiades briefed Mr Kerry on his decision to suspend his participation in the talks on the Cyprus problem under the current situation of blackmails and threats on the part of Turkey.
On his part, the US Secretary of State reiterated the position of his country about the inalienable right of the Republic of Cyprus to explore and exploit the natural resources within its Exclusive Economic Zone.
He also pointed out that the United States are working in the direction of creating those conditions that will make feasible the resumption of the talks on the Cyprus problem.
