Ambassador Leonidas Pantelides presented his credentials to the President of the USA, Barack Obama, 28.06.16
The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Leonidas Pantelides, presented his credentials to the President of the United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama, during a ceremony held at the White House, Washington on 27 June 2016.
Ambassador Pantelides conveyed to President Obama the greetings of the Government and the people of Cyprus, reaffirming the deep relations of friendship, cooperation and common values that link the two countries. He also noted the active presence of American companies in Cyprus on the field of hydrocarbon exploitation in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone and sent a message of encouragement for the further expansion of the trade relations of Cyprus and the USA. Ambassador Pantelides also expressed gratitude for the support provided by the US Government to the efforts for the reunification of Cyprus, under the auspices of the United Nations.
In his written reply, President Obama referred to the long history of friendship and strategic partnership of the USA with Cyprus. He also noted the continuous strengthening of bilateral ties both in the economic field and the promotion of peace and security to our region. On the Cyprus problem, President Obama congratulated him on the remarkable progress being made towards a settlement of the Cyprus problem. He reiterated that he remains fully committed to supporting Cypriot-led efforts to reunify Cyprus as a bizonal, bicommunal federation. Finally, he stressed that the United States will continue to support the leaders of the two communities in their efforts to achieve a just and lasting solution, expressing his hope that they will seize the opportunity to create a better future for all Cypriots.
