Thomas Miller: US totally supports UN efforts for a Cyprus settlement
Athens, Oct 18 (CNA) --- US Ambassador to Greece Thomas Miller
expressed today his country's full support to the UN efforts to reach a
settlement to the Cyprus problem, stressing that ''we do whatever we can do
to be helful, we want to be helpful.''
"We totally support the UN process and we have been supporting the UN process for a long time'', Miller told CNA just before meeting here with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides.|
Asked whether the UN will submit a peace plan for the solution of the Cyprus problem, Miller said he followed developments on Cyprus closely but he did not do the negotiations any more.
I leave that to my colleagues US State Department Special Coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston, and US Ambassador to Cyprus Michael Klosson, he added.
Regarding his meeting with President Clerides, Miller said it was strictly a social call.
''I come by to pay my respect and say hallo. It is an honor to come by and say hallo to an old friend'', the US diplomat told CNA.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.
