UN day attended by thousands
Nicosia, Oct 21 (CNA) -- An estimated 7,500 people from both sides of the
divide in Cyprus attended celebrations to mark UN day, yesterday at the
Ledra Palace hotel, in the UN controlled buffer zone.
Chief of Mission Zbigniew Wlosowicz welcomed the good turnout in a year when "expectations are high as everyone hopes for a just and brighter future on the island", as he said in his address at the event.|
Scores of people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, including many young people, spent a few hours together in the grounds of the hotel, where the UN peace-keeping force had organized various events for those attending.
