Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) -- The Greek Cypriot side requested the return of its reply to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's letter requesting from the two sides the points they wished changed in a Cyprus solution plan submitted by the UN chief on November 11, after the Turkish Cypriot side failed to give its reply simultaneously.

Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou, reading a written statement by Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides, said here Thursday that Clerides requested the immediate return of the Greek Cypriot side's reply once he was informed of the development.|

The Turkish Cypriot side had cited technical reasons for not forwarding its reply while Turkish sources said the reply would be given within the next hours.

Earlier Thursday Attorney General Alecos Markides revealed that the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides replied to Annan's letter.

Annan had asked each leader to make known to his Special Adviser, Alvaro de Soto, their comments, suggestions or requests on his suggested basis for agreement on a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem, so as to enable the process to move forward.
