Cyprus continued its extraordinary contribution to the world community through its extensive response in assisting citizens leaving the Lebanon crisis throughout the summer of 2006.
Because of its proximity to Lebanon and the inaccessibility of the Beirut airport, Cyprus is the principal transit location for people evacuating Lebanon.
The Cyprus Civil Defense has established reception points in the harbors of Larnaca and Limassol, providing food and water for incoming evacuees, transportation to the airport and places of temporary accommodation. The Cypriot authorities have taken all necessary measures to receive the evacuees and provide shelter, food, and water to those in need.
