LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS

The following types of document legalizations can be performed by the Embassy.

Power of Attorney

The Embassy does not draft the Power of Attorney. This must be prepared in advance and presented to the Embassy for legalization. Please note that the Power of Attorney cannot be based on US law as it will not be valid in the Republic of Cyprus.

For a Power of Attorney to be legalized, the principal signatory must visit either the Embassy or an Honorary Consulate in person, presenting the document in question as well as their passport/ID.

The fee for the legalization of a Power of Attorney is the equivalent of €9.00 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).

Affidavits

An Affidavit can be signed in person either at the Embassy or an Honorary Consulate.

The fee for the legalization of an Affidavit is the equivalent of €9.00 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).

Apostilles

Apostilles, as specified by the Hague Convention of 1961, can be issued by the U.S. Department of State or other designated authority. A document bearing the seal of Apostille does not need any further legalization in order to be accepted in Cyprus.

Where Cypriot public documents are concerned, the competent authority for issuing Apostilles is the Ministry of Justice and Public Order. Documents bearing the seal of Apostille can be accepted in the US without further legalization from the Embassy. Individuals who wish to have a Cypriot document Apostilled, can submit it to the Embassy in order for this to be forwarded to the competent authority in Cyprus. If forwarded by mail, it must be accompanied by a self-addressed, certified pre-paid envelope.

The fee for an Apostille is the equivalent of €5 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).

Sworn Statements

Sworn Statements / Oaths can be made in person at the Embassy or an Honorary Consulate and are accepted before the Courts of the Republic of Cyprus. Individuals are requested to furnish their own medium on which the Statement is to be sworn (i.e. Bible, Quran, etc.).

The fee for a Sworn Statement is the equivalent of €9.00 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).
