PASSPORTS

Applying for a passport

All Cypriot citizens are eligible for a Republic of Cyprus passport. Applications for the issuing or renewal of a passport can only be submitted at the Embassy in person. The Republic of Cyprus issues biometric passports.

If you have filed an application for acquiring the Cypriot citizenship you may not apply for a passport until after your citizenship application has been approved.

The following documents must be submitted at the time of application, both in their original form for verification purposes, as well as a copy to be filed:

  • Republic of Cyprus birth certificate.
  • Cyprus National Identity Card.
  • Certificate of citizenship (where applicable).
  • A marriage certificate (where applicable).
  • A police report (in case of lost or stolen passport).
  • Any further documentation that may be requested by the Consulate.

The fee for the issuing of a passport is the equivalent of €70 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).

In the case of applications where minors are concerned (anyone under the age of 18), the applicant must be accompanied by both parents. If the parents are divorced then the explicit, written consent of both must be presented, or a Family Court Decision on parental care where necessary.

The fee for the issuing of a passport for minors is the equivalent of €45 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).

Emergency Travel Document

An Emergency Travel Document (ETD), or laissez-passer, may be issued in the event where a passport has been lost, stolen, destroyed or is temporarily unavailable. An ETD is valid for a single journey back to the applicant’s country of nationality or permanent residence.

Cypriot citizens who have lost or had their passport stolen while abroad, should contact the nearest police station in order to submit a complaint. Once the official police report has been obtained, they should apply at the Embassy for an ETD. Please note that by reporting a passport lost or stolen, the passport is immediately declared to be invalid, so as to prevent its misuse.

When applying for an ETD, the following documents must be submitted:

  • Proof of identity.
  • The official police report.
  • A duly completed application form (M9 G).
  • Two recent passport size photos.

The fee for issuing an ETD is the equivalent of €20 in US$ (based on the exchange rate at the time of application).

Upon return to Cyprus, the ETD must be handed over to the Civil Registry and Migration Department, in order for a new passport to be issued.

Minors (anyone under the age of 18) applying for an ETD must be accompanied by both parents or have their explicit, written consent.
